Kids Production

Our Theater Academy program is for students in grades 6-8 and is designed to train our students in different aspects of theater throughout a three-year program.  Each spring semester we will teach one of our three courses and will rotate those courses so that our students learn something different each year.  By the end of the three years, our students will be well-equipped and fully prepared to enter our Senior Production group.  While it is highly recommended that students take this class each spring to be more prepared for the Junior Production class in the fall and to move into the Senior Production group in 9th grade, it is not required.  Students may also join the Academy as a 7th or 8th grader even if they did not start the Academy as a 6th grader.

Our Theater Academy class will be focusing on the following aspects this semester:

  • Character Development
  • Stage Combat
  • Stage Makeup
  • Scene Work

At the end of the semester we will invite family members to come get a glimpse of what we have learned.

  • Mondays 4:30-6:00pm
  • Grades 6-8
  • Our Spring 2020 session begins on February 24th and goes through May 18th.

* Please note that tuition for this class will be due in March, April, and May.

This spring our high school students will be producing a full-length non-musical of Jane Austen’s humorous and endearing “Sense and Sensibility”.  Every student who registers for this production will be in it but all students will need to audition for parts.  Auditions will be held on Monday, January 27th from 6:00-8:00pm.  Students will receive monologues from the show when they register and will need to choose one, memorize it, and be ready to perform it for their audition.  Students will also do cold readings at the auditions.

Rehearsals will begin on February 10th.

Performances will be May 28th, 29th, and 30th with mandatory extra rehearsals May 23rd through May 27th.

Tuition for this production is $100 per month (February through May).

Our Theater Combo class is designed to give students a broad taste of theater.  Students will learn about acting, mime, choreography, singing, stage combat, masks, and more!  They will also prepare a performance for family and friends at the end of the semester which will include elements of what they learned throughout the semester!

SCHEDULE: This class will be held on Tuesdays from 5:30-7:00pm for students ages 6-12.  This is a 15 week class and will begin the week of February 3rd, ending the week of May 18th.  There will be no classes the week of Spring Break.  The final performance will be on the last day of class in May.

TUITION: Tuition for this one and one-half hour class is $70 per month (February through May).

Our Imagine It! theater classes are for our youngest performers!  Students will get to create characters and stories using props and costumes and most of all – their imaginations!  Just imagine going to the moon, or visiting a castle, or trekking through the jungle.  All of this is possible with a little bit of creativity!  Students will also learn about using emotions and will get a taste of being on stage when they put on a performance for their family and friends at the end of the semester!

SCHEDULE: This class will be held on Wednesdays from 10:00-10:45 am for students ages 3-5.  This is a 15 week class and will begin the week of February 3rd (2020), ending the week of May 18th.  There will be no classes during the week of Spring Break.  The final performance will be on the last day of class in May.

TUITION: Tuition for this 45-minute class is $48 per month (February through May).

**This class begins on March 26th and will go through May 21st.  Tuition will be due in April and May.

In our unique Story Through Song class, students will combine in-depth vocal training with acting techniques while exploring material from the world of musical theatre. Students will learn to combine their singing and acting which will help them give convincing and moving theatrical performances.  This class will focus on teaching students how to do full technical vocal warmups, will help students add expression and confidence to their performances, and will teach students how to delve into their character’s backstory as well as their own emotional experiences in order to make their story believable.

Our instructor will help each student select the best piece for his or her voice for the final class showcase. Each week students will be given opportunities to work on their songs in front of the group in a masterclass style. This will be a supportive, open and friendly environment to build their confidence performing solos.

This course is open to everyone and there is no audition required to join. However, in order to get the most out of the classes, some previous acting and singing experience is recommended.

What To Bring:

  • Two copies of sheet music for one or more songs (ensure you pick songs you are familiar with and know you can sing).
  • Instrumental tracks for chosen songs (on your phone is fine)
  • Pencil
  • Notebook
  • Bottle of water
NOTE: After the completion of this course, students will have the opportunity to audition for our new tour group: Heroes, Princesses and Villains. This tour group will take part in all parts of Austin/Greater Austin and will have the potential of being a paid opportunity.  To learn more information about our tour group, click on the link below.

Tuition

Our tuition rates are shown below. Tuition for all dance, theater, and music classes (with the exception of the senior theater production and private lessons) is calculated by the hourly tuition rate. Simply total the combined hours in class to find your student’s rate.  Example: If your student is enrolled in the Theater Combo class (a 1.5 hour class) and a Tap and Dance for Musical Theater class (a 1 hour class) your child would be in a total of 2.5 hours of class.  This would make your monthly tuition $100.

* Tuition for the senior production, Princess Parties Touring Group, and any private lessons cannot be included in the hourly rate.  These are not elligible for any discounts other than the sibling discount.

There is a non-refundable registration fee of $45 due with registration. This registration fee is per family/per school year. Tuition is due on the 10th of each month.  A $15 late fee will be applied if payment is not received by that date.  We offer a $10 per month sibling discount.

For additional important tuition information (such as due dates, late fees, etc.) as well as dress code details, and what to bring to class, please refer to our handbook.
