Emily Calasopa

Theater Teacher/Touring Director

Emily is thrilled to be working with Arts Avenue! Having worked with several theater arts training programs in the Pacific Northwest and here in Austin, she is no stranger to the platform that Arts Avenue is built upon. Emily has toured around the world singing and performing with The Continental Singers and has had formal training from Broadway directors, actors, and musical directors with special training in singing with your “healthy belt” and “mix” as well as the art of “Story through Song” (known as Cabaret).  Emily has had the privilege of directing, musical directing, choreographing and teaching over 60 shows, camps and classes. She is no stranger to the stage either! Some of her favorite roles are: Ursula in The Little Mermaid, Lucy in Jekyll and Hyde, Mrs. Potts in Beauty and the Beast and her all time favorite, Sour Kangaroo in Seussical the musical.  Currently, Emily teaches private voice lessons in Cedar Park, Austin, Round Rock, and Bastrop.

Emily’s passion is to show kids that there is a place in the performing arts for every person, whether they are a shy introvert or an outgoing songbird!  Maybe their place is helping with backstage or costuming, makeup and hair or stage combat, lights and sound or artistic team. There is a place for every student! Having been that shy, super quiet homeschooled kiddo herself, she found her place when she found theater. She knows the magic that can happen when someone believes in you and fully believes that every child has their time to shine.  She looks forward to sharing the tips, tricks, facts and figures to finding their place on, or off the stage!

Emily has two little girls that have lived and breathed theater from the moment they were born. Her husband enjoys helping with sets and props, but hasn’t graced the stage himself. She also raises English Bulldogs and has a slight obsession with rainbows and unicorns.
